What is RSS?

RSS is a technology which allows readers to follow their favorite websites without tediously checking back for new content.

Many websites now offer the option of subscribing to their content via RSS. What that means is that whenever a new article or post is added to the site, that content will be delivered to you without any work on your part.

But how do you get this content? How do you read it? Enter the RSS reader. What an RSS reader does is act as a centralized place for you to keep track of all your favorite sites. RSS readers usually allow you to read articles, mark them as favorites, email them to friends, and more.

Some great RSS readers include: Google Reader and Bloglines.

Here at The Hatchet, however, we offer the option of subscribing via RSS or email. So if you don’t want to hassle with RSS you can still get our newest content conveniently via email, something we’re all familiar with.
